That’s just what Chen is hoping for. Whether it’s hanging out with friends at the store’s mellow Saturday “open mic” nights or leading a jewelry-making workshop, she has created a home for loyal patrons, a cradle for budding artists and a place to find tranquility in the middle of the city. “I’m trying to find a way for people who have a desire to live life to be filled with music and art,” she says. “I want people to enjoy the simplicity of life and natural things.”
From the soft lighting to mellow music, the owner designed this homey atmosphere to make customers comfortable as they look at merchandise, from necklaces and scarfs to handbags and sandals. Those feeling hungry will find a revamped menu now featuring french toast topped with sweets like almond maple syrup and chocolate ice cream (NT$100-300). Healthy salads (NT$159-$200) are also popular. Beverages include coffee, tea and juice (NT$80-120).
In the future, Chen hopes to turn the basement into an art gallery and theater, where fashion shows and family reunions can be held. “I want to help keep solving life’s problems,” she said. “I want to give people strength.”
